Adlaica’s Story: Growing Up with Books, Technology, and Big Dreams

Meet Adlaica, a bright 12-year-old student in the 7th grade who has practically grown up inside our community library in rural Haiti.

“I have been coming to the library since I was 5 years old,” Adlaica shares proudly. Over the years, this welcoming space has become a second home — a place where curiosity, creativity, and new skills flourish.

Today, Adlaica is one of the eager students participating in the library’s computer class and BrainPOP activities, exploring everything from research skills to interactive learning. “The library helps me improve my reading skills every day,” she says. “It also makes learning computer skills easier, which helps me follow my school lessons more effectively.”

Her favorite pastime? Reading novels, discovering new worlds and growing stronger in her studies with each chapter she turns.

But Adlaica’s dreams don’t stop with her own growth — she’s thinking of others, too. “I truly love the library!” she says. “I would love for us to have more computers in the computer class so that more children can learn, just like I do.”

Thanks to supporters like you, children like Adlaica are gaining the tools and confidence they need to thrive — in school and far beyond it.
